100 Years Ago

October 11, 1923

Miss Irene Sanders has enrolled as a student at Potts college, Williamsport.

Donald Robbins has gone back to Harrisburg, where he will resume his studies.

Raymond Smith, Charles Lorah, Albert Forney, Murry Stackhouse and Monroe Forney spent Friday at the Bloomsburg Fair.

Conrad Marks Reeder died suddenly Saturday evening at his home in Picture Rocks, from an acute heart attack, at the age of seventy-one years. He was a former resident of Williamsport, the son of former County Surveyor Merrick Reeder, and removed to Picture Rocks about eight years ago. He was for years connected with the old Twelfth regiment. He is survived by his wife, a daughter, Mrs. George L., and a brother, J. Howard. Funeral services were at home and the body was taken to Wildwood cemetery where services were held and interment made.

William Hessler died Sunday morning at the age of eighty-three years at his home at Huntersville. Mr. Hessler was born in Huntersville and had lived there all his life. He is survived by two daughters, Annie, at home, and Mrs. Thomas Wentzler of Muncy, R.D., and three sons, Jacob of Virginia; Harvey of Wallis Run and Charles of Wilkes-Barre. Funeral services were held at the Huntersville M.E. church Tuesday, conducted by Rev. H.P. Hemming, of Picture Rocks. Interment was made in the Huntersville cemetery.

Mr. and Mrs. Reamer Fiester of Masten, were here over the week-end as the guests of the former’s mother, Mrs. Margaret Fiester.

Issac Shaffer has purchased a plot of ground at Beaver Lake and expects to have constructed within the next few weeks a cottage, which he will use as headquarters when hunting in that vicinity.

The ministers of town are formulating plans for the winter series of union religious revival meetings which will be held some time during the month of January some time during the month of January, with an evangelist from out of town to conduct the meetings.

Sports Notes

The only southpaw catcher in organized baseball is the boast of the Minor club of the North Dakota league. He is Andy Brandt.

The New York Giants announced the purchase of Moses Solomon, first baseman and star batsman of the Hutchinson (Kan.) club of the Southwestern league.

Hughesville Furniture Company

A large moving van left Friday morning from the factory of the Hughesville Furniture company containing five complete new dining room suites of furniture for display at the New York Furniture exposition which opened on Monday to continue for the next two weeks. The samples of the new suites added to the local factory line will be on display with the products of nearly all the furniture factories of the east and middle west. Walter M. Engle, president of the Hughesville Furniture company, will exhibit the local factory’s samples at his space in the exposition building.
