Governor Pinchot strongly approves of the Christmas Seal sale as a life-saving effort. He said: “Tuberculosis is a serious matter for the State and its citizens. In the past sixteen years, during which time a systematic effort to combat the White Plague has been put forth, the death rate from this scourge has been reduced about 40 per cent in Pennsylvania.”

The funeral of J.B. Gordner will be held from the family residence on South Main street Saturday afternoon at 2 o’clock and will be private. Mr. Gordner had been confined to his bed for the last eighteen months. He was in his eighty-first year. He is survived by his widow and four children. Mr. Gordner was a carpenter and cabinet-maker by trade.

William Remsnyder, of this place, was one of the first hunters from town to bring down a deer. He was successful in shooting a good sized buck on Saturday in the vicinity of the North Mountain.

Frank Brodosi and Miss Ada Weaver, both of this place, were united in marriage on November 29 at the parsonage of the M.E. church by the pastor, Rev. W.A. Lepley.

R. Harry Corson figured in an automobile accident last Thursday evening while returning home with his family from Williamsport. Near Montoursville he was unable to avoid a collision with a large car. Mr. Corson’s sedan had one fender torn off and the steering rod badly bent and the headlights broken. The driver of the other car proceeded on his way without stopping to investigate what damage had been done. The occupants of the Corson car were uninjured and by careful handling the car was brought to Hughesville under its own power.

The annual Thanksgiving service in Trinity Lutheran church was a very inspiring one, and every available seat was occupied. The ministers of town took part in the service. The invocation was pronounced by Rev. Fred Harris, pastor of the Friends Holiness church, and the scripture lesson, the 103rd Psalm, was read by Rev. W.A. Lepley, of the Methodist church. The sermon was delivered by Rev. Richard Fortran, pastor of the Baptist church, his theme being, “Bless the Lord O My Soul, and Forget Not All His Benefits.” The offering for the evening is to be sent to the association which uses the funds received for the purpose of translating the Bible into the different foreign languages. The service ended with the entire congregation singing “America.”
