At the close of institute on Thursday afternoon, Prof. Gahan, county superintendent, was presented by the teachers present with a gold watch and chain.

The proceeds of the fair held by the Villigant Fire Company last week amounted to $530.56.

The Muncy Creek Railroad company are perfecting arrangements for laying wooden rail. Large quantities of the tires are out and are being prepared for the rail.

A small country home of Mrs. Edith Mohr, Pennsdale, was completely destroyed by fire Saturday night which developed form an exploding kerosene lamp.

Dec. 20, 1923

Mrs. Sarah El. Elliott, aged 88 years, one of the oldest residents of the borough, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Milton Artley, Tuesday morning. She is survived by her daughter and two sons, Harvey, of Williamsport, and Hiram of Harrisburg; nineteen grandchildren, thirty-six great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. Funeral services will be held at the Artley home this (Thursday) afternoon at 2:30 o’clock and burial will be made in the cemetery of the old brick church near Hughesville.

Rebecca Ginter, little daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Ginter, is confined to her home by diphtheria. Mr. and Mrs. Beaver Egli and daughter, Rebecca, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Gray and Miss Anna Haines, of Pennsdale, were visitors in this place Sunday.

Picture Rocks

Miss Fanny Gilbert very pleasantly entertained the members of the grammar school at a Christmas party on Friday evening in the Legion rooms. Mrs. Howard Day entertained “The Gleaners” class of the Methodist church recently. Plans were made to hold a baked ham supper in the M.E. church parlors on Feb. 22.

The Picture Rocks Grammar and High schools held Literary [readings] on Friday afternoon. A very pleasing program was rendered. Mrs. Paul Reeser was given a variety shower on Thursday evening by her friends.

Town The American Legion of Hughesville, will give a Christmas entertainment to the children of Legionairs and children of the town on Saturday, December 22, at 2 o’clock P.M. at the Post rooms. Candy, and a good time promised. Parents, bring the kiddies!

There will be an all-day session of the Dairymen’s League at the Canusurago Grange hall on North Main street, on Friday, December 28.

Hughesville subscriptions to the Harding Memorial Fund are being received this week at the Grange National Bank.
