Two senior groups meet for a healthy time
MUNCY – The Silver Sneakers and the Susquehanna Striders groups participated in a combined event hosted by the East Lycoming YMCA on Friday, July 20. For the first time, the two groups came together to exercise, socialize and enjoy a healthy lunch.
About 30 members representing both groups completed a 45 minute work out that included a warm up, cardio, toning, stretching exercises and a cool down. Health screenings for balance, blood pressure, body mass index (BMI) and spinal were also provided. This event marks the first time the ELYMCA Silver Sneakers and Susquehanna Health’s Striders have joined together to enhance health and fitness.
Susquehanna Striders was established in 1996 by Susquehanna Health’s LifeCenter. Currently, about 550 Striders log miles and earn incentives and health benefits through membership in this free community-wide walking program. Additional information and registration is available online at SusquehannaHealth.org/Striders.
Silver Sneakers is a program provided by the YMCA to help seniors live a healthier lifestyle through physical activities and social events. About 60 seniors participate in the Muscular Strength and Range of Motion (MSROM) class held Monday, Wednesday and Friday at the Eastern Lycoming YMCA. Information on the Silver Sneakers program is available at the ELYMCA information desk or online at ELYMA.org.
